ON WEEKENDS YOU MIGHT find residents of Second Street visiting the San Francisco Zoo, going to movies, organizing a picnic, planning a party, attending monthly dances, visiting the Lawrence Hall of Science or other local museums, bowling (every Monday night), or perfecting our skills for the Special Olympics.

Megan is the most recent addition to our group. In addition to creating fine art, Megan also does bead work, making beautiful necklaces and bracelets. She swims at Special Olympics and enjoys dancing as well.

Mary is our resident drummer and studies each week with a professional drummer. Her teacher says that her sense of rhythm is rare and that she can do things that even he can’t do! Mary is also an artist and weaver.

Rick is quite the gardener. He waters the lawn faithfully and cares for our yard with his garden crew. Rick plays soccer and is a race walker at Special Olympics. He likes parties and is an excellent dancer.

Debbie is an artist and weaver. Her special skill at Special Olympics is race walking. She has a knack for keeping the house neat and clean, especially her room, and enjoys making our kitchen spic and span.

Tammy loves playing basketball and has become a very good gardener. She loves fashion, parties, and dancing to all sorts of music.

“Teaching Charlie how to weave when I don’t even know how to operate a loom myself, helped teach me patience, understanding and simple love. I learned so much from the clients at The Cedars.”
— Clare Ryan
Youth Volunteer
“We who have family members with developmental disabilities are so fortunate to have The Cedars. The care and concern from the management and staff for each individual client permeates throughout the entire organization.”
— Stu Leeb
Parent and Board Member
